Our supermarket bill was about the same as usual last night. But, we did not buy any beer or wine which usually puts it up considerably. so all our regular groceries cost the same as it used to cost with 6 bottles of wine and beer for the weekend!

I keep an occasional note of supermarket prices, since this time last year, not including booze, our standard shop has gone up from around £80 to closer to £90.

Re: Signs of the times
That is a big rise. £10 on an £80 shop.
I suppose if you take off the booze then ours must have gone up from £90 to £110. And that's Sainsbury's. Looking around, different supermarkets have better bargains. For instance, Sainsbury's is better for their own brands specially the basic stuff whereas Asda is better for bread and booze. Morrisons do a good value mild - Thwaites at £2.99 for 4 and their specials were much better at less than half price.

That's on a like for like basis, our standard of living hasn't changed, it's just got more expensive. I've always bought on quality rather than cost.
