I pay the faerie penny when I visit Dollar Glen,
that way I’m sure that Angus Leod will pass through there again
and tell his tales of Faeriedom to willing mortal ears
or raise a glass in Dollar’s bars to Dollar’s early years.

Those years when Faerie folk and men worked hand in hand by pairs
to harness Nature’s beauty when they laid the Faerie Stairs
that wind behind the Faerie Falls where laughing water plays
and insects sing of Faerie Rings and fertile, golden days.

When men were young the Faerie folk adopted them as kin
and taught them how to husband trees and gather harvests in;
but over time men changed their ways and looked for bigger yields,
soon meadow grass and Faerie nooks gave way to planted fields.

Sufficiency was not enough as wish for profit grew
and, shocked at man’s increasing greed, the Faerie folk withdrew.
Yet some men miss the fellowship that echoes down through song
and Faerie folk like Angus Leod say sundering is wrong.

The biggest obstacle that bars the Faeries from our haunts
is man’s dependency on coin to barter for all wants;
since Faeries work for Mother Earth their wages come in kind,
in terms of common currency they’ve fallen far behind.

So pay the Faerie Penny when you find a Faerie Ring
so Faeriedom can see we’ve not forgotten everything.
In turn, you might meet Angus Leod out walking in the Glen
or share a glass in Dollar’s bars with Faerie folk again.

Excellent poet, Jim. Lovely bloke but he didn't have a lot to say outside of his poems.

I read some of his poems at a poetry evening, once.
Yes this is the real "Little John" (or it could be "colin")
