Half a pound of twopenny rice

Post by marymary »

Unbelievably, the Tories are going to make Imperial measurements legal on U.K. packaging again in an effort to roll back to the sixties. I was at school when we had to move from one system to the other. Expecting people who outnumber those who remember the old system to learn the old is just ludicrous virtue signaling, something Boris excels at.

W.A.L.O.S! Yes do still think in terms of "old" measurements, but, metrication is really much better!

I suppose it's part of the Tory mindset that they should live in the past, but I don't think they're considering making it compulsory. Personally I use both systems as it suits me, metric for accurate measurement and imperial for rule of thumb.
However, it's all so silly that I only wonder what serious items are being buried in this inanity

I find metric much easier to work with and saves converting as currrently items sold must be sized In metric .
You can still use your 12 foot pole to keep the plebs back but it's 3.67 .

I checked - okay googled the answer - and only three countries in the world use the Imperial system of units - the U.S., Liberia and Myanmar (I thought it was five but the only one I could remember was the US).
Why on earth would we want to even consider swapping back to such a silly system. Over 55 years ago, when at school, we were taught the metric system. I find it ridiculous that some tv weather reports tell you the temperature in C then tell you it in F. I have no idea what 60F feels like, or 85F. But I know what 15C, 30C, 26C, 60C feels like.
It is a totally stupid idea when the majority of people in the UK have grown up with the metric system.

I still remember what 60F, 80F and 100F feels like. I think that 20C is ok, but I'm not so sure and still have to convert to F to ensure I'm right. As far as fuel is concerned, mpg, tells me if a car is good on fuel or not, L/100km means I've got to work backwards to mpg. We did not go fully metric until my teens. Change back? Hell no!!!!

Oddly enough MPG was never quite given up by the public here although fuel purchased in litres .
