An odd conversation…
My dad’s neighbour/gardener is an affable chap so often chats while he’s working on gardens in the area and I am walking the dog. The other day I said that my dog gets excited to see my friend every Tuesday and considers her the fun one who gives her excitement because of the long walk and treats. At this point he said, “Do you fancy going for dinner one night?”
“ Err, what do you mean?”
“Do you fancy going out for dinner one night?”
“It depends what you mean.”
“Just if females get more excited by only seeing someone once a week…”
“Obviously you got me on a very slow day. I’m far too slow off the mark…” as I wandered off.

Just out of interest, how old is he?
Yes this is the real "Little John" (or it could be "colin")

What could be nicer than a meal with an affable person?
Children are like Slinkys - not much use for anything, but it always brings a smile to your face when you throw them down the stairs. Chinchilla

He is married so I felt quite awkward. I had asked my initial question because I thought he was going to ask my dad and I out for dinner with his wife and him.

Never too old for a bit on the side.

Re: An odd conversation…
I would have assumed that he meant with his wife, too, but that's just me. I have a good friend (female) who would ring occasionally and we'd talk computers for hours. Often we would go out for dinner, she'd always invite a friend to keep Deb company while we talked computers. One night she rang and teenage son answered the phone and yelled out through the house, "Dad, it's your girlfriend on the phone" From then on, she was always "my girlfriend". Yes, she was a girl (well, actually a lady) and, she was a friend. In fact, I had befriended the whole family in different ways. Mate worked for her father in a section that I was later to join, I was often talking to her brother on the phone as he was a member of the billing team when I worked for Telecom. Then I got to help her mother with computers for her enterprise.
Of course I'm athletic, I SURF the internet daily!

“Do you fancy going out for dinner one night?” means only one thing
Nothing odd about that.
