Copyright infringement

Post by marymary »

I just looked at a video I took of a pipe band marching down the street on Saturday and realised that Facebook has muted it for copyright infringement. I wouldn’t have thought that old Scottish songs like they were playing would have been owned by anyone these days but there’s no way of appealing that I can see.

Edit - I found the dispute section and they have said it matches someone else’s sound - well of course it will if we filmed the same event from different angles. A bit zealous, whoever reported it.

Wouldn't have thought it was an infringement.... copywrite ends 70 years after the death of author . In the case of similar videos taken at the same event tough .it happens every day . ( Unless the event itself was protected )

I just took it down in case it was the band themselves but I have never had that before.

YouTube do it automatically.
I’ve appealed countless times, and it was always released.
I write something like ‘it was written by a composer who died in 1791, and was performed by me’ and off it goes.
The computer checks it against copyrighted material, and even if only 2 bars matches, it is muted.

It wasn’t important enough to dispute, just disappointed that the excitement couldn’t be shared by those who now live overseas.

You could cut out the bit that is in dispute. It's usually just a few bars...

It was a minute in the first video and six minutes in the walk back - so all of it, basically. The Games organiser had no idea why so it's not come from them.

It is done automatically, so human (from FB or Youtube) has actually seen your video. You should dispute it saying the organiser said it's ok to post the said clip.

The tune probably matches a copyrighted material (film soundtrack or pro recording).
