No - it is not, LJ . Willie Nelson is still performing. Boxcar Willie (real name Lecil Travis Martin) died in 1999!

Desert Island Discs (repeat)
Malala Yousafzai
This woman is amazing. But her Brummie accent (28 minutes in) is terrible.

Actually I'm listening to the Test Match on TalkSport which is nearly as good as TMS nowadays but that's more because TMS has gone downhill, but last night a mate introduced us to:

To the list of entrancing women singers of Judeo-Spanish or Ladino music such as the more familiar Mor Karbasi or Yasmin Levy you can add this very fine young Greek/ French singer.

She reminded me of Arabic singing. Once you know that style you can hear it in other cultures’ music too.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
All of those Mediterranean, and many Central European, styles were heavily influenced by the migration of the Roma from the North of India. If you look at the overland trade routes from India into North Africa, the Med, and Central Europe and listen to the folk music of each area, you can follow the spread. Musically you can even hear it in the fusion of Klezmer & Blues that shows in early Jazz recordings.

Nice version, but I do dislike that kind of artificial drum backing and it's shame they didn't show the string section in the vid. I suspect it's much better live.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I am doing a course on the clans and came across the story of Marion Campbell of Glenlyon who was the daughter of a close kinsman and ally of the Campbells of Glen Orchy. Yet she was also the wife of Grigor Ruadh, chief of the Macgregors. In the 1560s she found herself caught between these two feuding clans. She composed this song about her husband when he was taken and eventually executed. She lost her father, husband and sons to feud. The song is haunting and her sons were still alive at this point.
