90th birthday music

Post by marymary »

This link will stay live for 24 hours, apparently.

We want the music to be upbeat and memorable for my dad and his ever so slightly younger friends. Music from the 50s and 60s mostly.

Can you suggest anything which is missing?

Looks more like a list for a 60 - 80 year old, nothing in there from the 40s, especially post war.
Children are like Slinkys - not much use for anything, but it always brings a smile to your face when you throw them down the stairs. Chinchilla

Yes, but he and my mum met and married in the late 50s after meeting in a cafe with a juke box and played things on their record player in the sixties.

That "Johnie b goode" looks like the "Back to the future" version. You want Chuck Berry.

Walking in the rain Johnie Ray

And the garden of Eden by.... Blimey... Its gone right out if my head....

... Frankie Vaughan

It looks a good list. Are these tracks what you have downloaded to play or do you stream live?

I believe I have created an album and it will play via smart phone WiFi on the day. They will be shuffled by Spotify. I added then removed My Way as the “final curtain” is a bit dodgy for the gathering party goers.

I had asked my daughter to do it initially but she was having to actually listen to them because she didn’t recognise the fifties ones at all. I have added some more and it’s now about two hours forty minutes. That’s enough for a couple of cups of tea with afternoon tea fare I think for that age group.

Thanks for looking at the list everyone.

I believe you can download the songs to play off line which means you don't have to worry about the Internet. This is what I gathered from our kids

Lovely list :hiya:
Great that your dad has kept his hearing.
Although MIL loves music, she is almost completely deaf.
My dad still watches oldie music shows on TV.

Depending upon His tastes in music, He might appreciate classical music which might add some variety to the current playlist. Some of the wartime songs might also go down well too.
Of course I'm athletic, I SURF the internet daily!

He was a child evacuee during the war so I don’t think music featured much tbh.

If its on an iPhone, I think it will have to be via Bluetooth because they don't have a headphone socket. Bluetooth speakers are small and surprisingly good.

Or we have Bluetooth receivers that have headphone sockets that can be plugged into an aux input of an amp or other system

My daughter’s the expert. She used to be a DJ at parties, so quite confident she knows what she’s doing.
