Still only half way through "Sleepy Head" and you'd think with all this rain I'd be reading with gay abandon!

Come on, spill the beans! Who is the author?
I'm near the end of Sleepyhead and think I'll start on my Noel Reading book next.

Re: What are you reading at the moment?
Im on the look for something I can really get my teeth into (not literally obviously) but cant find something that fits my mood, in the meantime been mostly reading a chicklit books by Debbie Macomber, mostly from 2 of her series - Blossom Street and the Cedar Cove one which I believe has been turned into a tv series with Andie MacDowell. I must say its nice to read a series rather than a standalone book which most chicklit are, I like the fact I get to know the characters more in depth and even if the next book isnt about the same character as the last one they do get mentioned so I find out what happened next to them.
I have also started reading Postcards by James Patterson, which I have on my kindle, I picked it as my kindle shows I havent read it yet, but after reading the first 2 pages I know I have read it before so trying to decide whether to read on or not.

Not heard of either of them, MM. Were they interesting to meet?
And, ne. Do you like stories just about people rather than corpses? They are my favourite books. I loved October Sky and A Painted House and another Grishm Book I read recently in the same vain as Painted House.

To be honest LJ I mainly stick to chicklits and murder mysteries (if you can call the Thorne, Rebus and Inspector Grace series murder mysteries, not to mention my James Patterson ones) as I find them easy to read, but I was looking back through some of the reviews I did on years ago (I was looking for the name of 1 particular book - unfortunately I didnt seem to do a review of it) and came across the Devil's Acre and Sacred Heart books I had enjoyed, neither of which are ones I would usually pick up, it something like that I am looking for again, something that actually teaches me something rather than just passing the time if you know what I mean

Re: What are you reading at the moment?
She was very interesting. Her book Blossom is about what Scotland could be like if we just stopped being weird. She says it's weird that we have athletes who do well despite most of us not being able to run for the bus, that we fund initiatives like the Drumchapel Project for a year and then withdraw funding when it proves to be a success, that we allow 16 people to own 86% of our land and that we still have primogeniture. Obviously she said a lot more than that in the 2 hours she spoke but the book is about various projects where people have tried to empower themselves and how it turned out.

Re: What are you reading at the moment?
That sounds interesting mm, I hadn't realised that they had stopped funding for the Drumchapel project (although I know some people will be happy about that). Though it depends where the funding came from, if some of it was EU funding then the funding programme has came to an end. Anyway might add that to my list of ones to look out for.
LJ im not really into fantasy stuff but maybe I should try one for a change. I picked up a few new books over the weekend so will start with them first. Though I also have a disk with loads of e-books on it but havent even started looking through them yet, so I might some inspiration in there too.

You should try at least one Terry Pratchett. Try "Nation", I really enjoyed that but its not as funny as his hilarious Disc World stuff. Try "Mort" You'll just die for DEATH. Never has the Grim Raper been more human.

Re: What are you reading at the moment?
I am almost half way through The Verdict by Nick Stone. Billed on the front 'London not has its own John Grisham' - Mark Billingham. I must say it was this 'endorsement' that swayed my decision into trying it. It is my first Stone book and I must say I am thoroughly enjoying it (Ive tried reading Grisham but couldnt get into the story).
It is about a legal clerk who gets landed with being part of the defence team defending a millionaire against a murder charge. The problem is he used to be friends with the millionaire until they had a falling out about 20 years prior to this case and would love to see him fall. The other problem is that no-one on the defence team believes he is innocent and the evidence is all stacked against him.
I have a feeling I know what is going to happen but with half the book still to go I am sure there will be some major twists and turns before all is revealed.

Re: What are you reading at the moment?
If he is the British Grisham, there will be a very complicated plan involving lots of people which nearly fails but they just manage to pull it off right at the end.
Just started my second Rebus book. I have decided that I like Ian Rankin.
