My step-father's father invented a lathe that can turn work in situ, one of their more complicated jobs was turning the prop shaft of one of Her Majesties warships whilst it was moored in Gibraltar harbour. They weren't very impressed with Gibraltar itself though.

Its a very odd place. Neither one thing or another. They serve wine in fish and chip shops and speak a free mix of Spanish and English. The first thing you see after going through customs is a red telephone box and a Tescos guarded by a "British" Bobby. Just discussing it now with our Brazilian Sandra, I think she finally understood that this eccentric different-ness is worth preserving for both the people that live there and the Spanish that work there. Its a quaint tourist attraction but I'm not sure if its really a winter destination.

One odd part I noticed was the Spanish children crossing over to go to school . and the Spanish residents seem to be quite happy that Spain is not in control .
Sitting at the border because a plane was landing was quite a novelty as well.

That's right. Well dodgy. Right on the runway!

But there is nothing in La Linear across the border so the novelty of Gibraltar must bring a lot of work and money into the area. They'd be daft to change it.
