Shortened url
We respectfully request that url shortening sites are not used for links posted to the forums
in order to protect our members and the board .
These types of sites are being increasingly used to target users by spammers/ malware attacks and other types of dubious downloads.
If you don't know the author then don't click the link with out checking it out .
We don't have a problem with members using hidden links as these can be seen on mouseover .
Happy and safe surfing .

Re: Shortened url
Which would be great if I knew what a shortened URL was. And wiki isn't very helpful.

Re: Shortened url
You know what I think it is? Do you ever remember back in the Lineone free webspace days when you had really long urls for your website?
Mine was and still is http://website.lineone.net/~johngl1
But you could register with a site that shortened it for you so it looked like a domain name. I think they did it by simply relaying it on to the real address. I seem to remember doing that myself a long long time ago.

Re: Shortened url
Ah, isn't that things like tinyurl? I seem to recall DP used that sort of thing a lot.

Re: Shortened url
sounds about right. That might even have been the one that I tried. But I don't understand how it can do any harm.

Thought this was replied to Click on the link "the main reason"Little John wrote:sounds about right. That might even have been the one that I tried. But I don't understand how it can do any harm.
It might not do any harm to an experienced user but a novice might follow such a link and get caught out like the sample on the info link .
