This was discussed much earlier in the test version
see here http://www.salems.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2&start=0
if you need any help in adding video to a post .
Should have mentioned that photobucket videos can be embedded as well
so lets get some of those home videos or phone camera footage on the forum . ;)

Superceded by auto embedding
If you don't have a youtube account personal videos can be embedded via google drive
as photobucket has went commercial only , thats if they are still there .

Update : Now features Drag and Drop for adding Attachments
phpBB3 wrote:Attachments allow users to upload files and attach them to their post. The ability to attach and download attachments is determined by the "Can attach files" and "Can download files" permissions respectively.

To add an attachment, find the Upload attachment section of the posting page and click the Browse button. A comment may be placed in the File comment text box. Clicking Add the file will upload and attach the file to the post. To upload multiple files, repeat the process.

To delete an attachment, find the Posted attachments section of the posting page and click the Delete file button for the desired attachment.

Attachments can be displayed within the post text by clicking the Place inline button for the desired attachment. When an attachment is placed inline, text similar to a BBCode is inserted into the post text so that it may be moved. If an attachment is not placed inline, it will be displayed at the end of the post.

Attachments are controlled by a set of restrictions, namely file size and file type.

File Size: The maximum file size for uploaded files is set by the Administrator. The default is 350 KiB.

File Type: The types of files allowed for upload are restricted by their file extension. The allowed extensions are set by the Administrator.
Edit:
Attachments can now be drag & dropped to the post with the current version

The maximum is 300kb. That little shot glass you posted is about as big as you can post.

It's KiB not kb :P so try adding at least three naughts to the file size .
Now click on the thumbnail attachment to see its true dimensions which was uploaded under current settings as " Imagemagik" is in use .
Proof as in the post . :giggle:

this is a thumbnail ! click on it to see the original .

[s]As long as you remember that it's a forum app for browsing boards with the correct mobile software installed , yes it's been installed in here , it makes using a smart phone to use the forums with all the boards features like reading , posting , smilies , bb code attachments ect much simpler than using the standard phone browser .[/s]

App removed in favour of Responsive Styles

Re: Mobile Style

[s] In addition to above . For those who are not fans of adding "apps" to their mobiles a mobile theme has been added to the board ,
it can be found in the UCP under preferences . [/s]

Re: forums time settings

Post by salem »

This next hint should have been made a good while ago and the odd issue keeps cropping up .

Board times are taken from the server side , but the main board time is set for guests to the relevant time zone , in here it's [UTC] Greenwich Mean Time .
But in order to show for instance BST for members then in each individual members need to access their own "User Control Panel " /preferences
[s]and tick the radio button at DST (remembering to untick it when the clocks go back)[/s]

[British Summer Time] For Guests and members who are not signed in is set in the ACP .
timezone.PNG
 EDIT
After a fairly major upgrade DST will be automatically updated by the board however members are required to enter their timezone in the UCP
i.e. UTC.00 + Europe /London in order for this to apply

Re: Board hints (submitting a reply )

Post by salem »

1/ Half way through writing a post/pm and the phone goes or a meal requires your attention . ;)
To the left of submit post find "Save Draft" you'll be able to recover it in your UPC .
phpBB3 wrote:When creating a post, it can be saved or loaded using the drafts feature. If the board permissions allow drafts to be saved, then Save and Load buttons will appear on the posting page.

Save - Saves a post as a draft. When a draft is saved, only the subject and message of the post are stored. Topic icons, attachments, etc… will be lost.

Load - Loads a saved draft. When clicked, a listing of available drafts will appear. Click the title of the desired post to load the draft. Any information in the current post will be lost and replaced with that of the draft.

Once a draft is used, it is removed.

Note

If there are no drafts available, the Load button will not appear.

2/ One issue can pop up occasionally when writing a reply to a post and someone else makes a post in the same topic meantime ,
a re-view box will open rather than posting straight to topic , if this happens you do have to re-submit or the post will be lost,
don't assume because you've submitted the post it will appear , wait for the confirmation .

Re: Private Messages

Post by salem »

Or more accurately known as Personal Messages *
Available to Registered members only (newly registered members need to have posted the required number of replies/topics to access)
To message a member either click on the pm icon on a post of theirs or click on the username and choose pm from the profile.
Fill in the Message Title then add your message then sent (submit), you'll be able to edit the message until the recipient reads it .
Please note PMs aren't the same as instant messaging as the board page has to be refreshed before the member gets the notification
but they will get an e-mail if they have elected to be notified when messaged .

*Unlike some sites ! It is not and has never been our policy to intercept or read these messages , see the original site for our earlier statement .
If you have been spammed or flamed in a pm then use the report button at the top of the message in order for the admin team to help ,this also forwards the message to us , do not delete as this removes it completely from the board and we can't act on say so only .

** The virgin software allows no way of reading others PMs via ACP ect. but there are mod and hacks available in order to do so but once
again may I confirm that such mods will not be applied in here .
Any message board will however have the messages stored in the database and although they can't be read from it they could be downloaded and read so to protect your privacy read the message and delete or download . This might not help if a board is modified as files could be stored elsewhere .
